Medication FAQs

Some courses of treatment will require medication management. If you see one of our psychiatrists or nurse practitioners for medication management they will usually prescribe enough medication to last until your next appointment. If you are starting a new medication and titrating the dose (trying different strengths to find the right dose for you), then you may need a refill before your next appointment. Please call or text our office at least 3-4 days BEFORE you will be out of your medication to allow sufficient time for your provider to address your message.

Find additional information below regarding what we need from you in order to process a refill request and any costs associated with that.

Refill Requests

Please call or text our office at least 3-4 days BEFORE you will be out of your medication to allow sufficient time for your provider to address your message.

  • It is important for you to let us know about ALL other medications you are taking or have recently taken, including those prescribed by other physicians, purchased over the counter - such as cold pills, diet aids, and vitamin supplements or homeopathic drugs, and street drugs.

To request a medication refill, text or call us and select the medications option to leave a message with your information. Be sure to provide your name, the patient’s name (if different), a contact phone number, the full medication information (including name, dose, how often the medication is taken and how much you have left), the reason for a refill AND the pharmacy information. Please note, we do NOT accept refill requests from pharmacies.

  • All prescription medications require regular appointments and careful monitoring as part of your care, so it is our policy to not refill medications outside of your appointments, except in certain circumstances.

If your provider agrees to refill your medication, we will usually provide enough to last until your next visit. A medication refill fee may be assessed to your account. This fee is not covered by your insurance.

    Medication Refill Fees:

    $20.00 – 1st prescription

    $ 10.00 – each additional prescription

Prior Authorizations

We have an amazing team of staff and clinicians working to provide the best treatment options for you. We work hard to keep costs from becoming a barrier to your care and we will work with you to get your medication costs covered or lowered as much as possible by completing Prior Authorizations.

  • Sometimes your course of treatment may include new, name brand medications and we recognize that those can be expensive. If generic options are available and your provider approves using a generic, your pharmacy will fill that, usually without issue.

If your medication is not on your insurance company’s list of approved medications (called a Formulary), a prior authorization may be needed in order for your insurance to pay for your medication.

*We only complete prior authorizations on name brand prescriptions. See below for additional cost saving options for generic medications.

  • If you need a prior authorization, your pharmacy will initiate the process by faxing us a prior authorization form. Once we receive the form, our staff will complete the necessary steps and provide the required information to your insurance company. If your insurance company approves your prior authorization, they will inform your pharmacy, who will then fill your prescription.

This process can take time, often around a week to complete, so please do not wait to contact us until you are out of medication. If you will need medication while waiting on your prior authorization, please call or text us to see if we can provide you with any samples.

*Please note that we do not have samples of all types of medications, such as controlled substances (Stimulants, Xanax, Suboxone, etc.)

Patient Assistance

  • Some drug manufacturers offer patient assistance programs and we encourage patients to apply for those. We will work with you to complete those as portions of the applications need to be completed by your provider’s office. You will also need to provide specific information including proof of income in order to qualify for these programs. Click on Patient Assistance Programs for a list of manufacturers with programs and links to the applications for you to download.
